HE LEADS MY WAY
GOD’S GUIDANCE FOR OUR JOURNEY
Some years ago I decided to write a gospel song. I believe that God was leading me in new directions as I began to write music and books after retirement from many years at a college teaching engineering. So one of my projects was this song relating my feelings about God’s leadership as we travel through life, I titled: He Leads My Way.
The lyrics of the song, He Leads My Way, proclaim in Verse 1 and the Chorus:
Verse 1: There ‘s love in my heart, There’s peace in my soul, and joy in my day, for He is my savior and He leads my way.
Chorus: He leads my way, He leads my way. I will not stumble for He leads my way. Up hill and down the path may be hard, I know I can make it, for He leads my way, for He leads my way.
Sometimes we are passing through deep valleys of pain and sorrow and then we rise to the top of the mountain with joy and thanksgiving for all the blessings He has bestowed on us. God has given us guidance on how to travel through life, to weather storms and the up hills and down on our journey. The scriptures are rich in guidance to help us along our pathway. A few passages are cited below as examples of the many helpful verses in both the old and new testaments.
Psalm 25: 4-5 Make me know your ways, O LORD; Teach me your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For you are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day.
Psalm 31: 3 For You are my rock and my fortress; For Your name’s sake You will teach me and guide me.
The word stumble occurs 44 times in the bible. It seems God is concerned with our stumbles, that is our backsliding that occurs too often as we go down our path of life. The book of John has a wonderful verse of Jesus illustrating what we might think about when we make our choices in life.
John 11: 9-10 Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day he does not stumble because he sees the light of this world. But if one walks in the night, he stumbles because the light is not in his.
Clearly we cannot stumble life if we have the light of Christ in our hearts. I will not stumble if He Leads My Way.
The lyrics of the song continue in the bridge.
Bridge: Others my try to lead me astray. Others my try to darken my day. Others may stumble and lose their way. I cannot stumble for He Leads My Way.
The book of Proverbs is without a doubt a most wonderful source of God’s wisdom about all parts of our lives. A passage from Proverbs is provided to guide uswhen we are subject to being led by others to stumble and fall into sin. We cannot stumble if He Leads My Way.
Proverbs 5:21-23 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He ponders all his paths. His own iniquities trap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin. He shall die for black of instruction, and the in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
Proverbs 12: 25-26 Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad. The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray.
Finally we come to a second verse of the song that speaks to the attitude of thankfulness and happiness we can have in our life if we just follow Jesus and let him lead us a we travel our life’s journey.
Verse 2 No strife in my life, no anger within, Just joy when I say that he is my savior, and He leads my way.
So, we come to the end of the words of the song. We hope you have found something here that may help you as you travel the ups and downs of life. The guidance found in the scriptures will truly let God lead your way. The love of God is available for each of us as we are born again and let Him Lead Our Way.
